Topical Traditions

You know I really like Tropical Traditions Gold Label Coconut Oil, right?  Well, in another of  Bridget's (of Sweepstakes4MeAndU) contests, I won some of their Organic Teeth Cleaner.   I have been using it since it arrived. I gotta tell you, I like it and find it very effective.
You really should go visit and search out all of Bridget's Tropical Traditions reviews as she has tried many of their products!
Moisturizing Lotion - Arnica

As my skin was turn drier than burnt toast and flakier than ....their coconut, I brought some of their Moisturizing Lotions (Anica) variety.  Tropical Traditions described it as follows:
Excellent for massaging tired muscles. Ingredients: purified water, organic virgin coconut oil, organic jojoba, emulsifying wax (plant based, no soy), grapefruit seed extract, virgin palm oil, organic macerated Anica oil, and organic essential oils of wintergreen, peppermint, clove, helichrysum, and spruce.
The bad news is I found it so thick that I had to get my DH to squeeze it out for me.  Then I discovered I really don't like the smell of it.  I had gotten a really good twofer offer, hence, I gave them to DH who can squeeze the lotion out and does not care about the smell.
Does this mean I am giving up on Tropical Traditions?  Of course not!  They are a good company with lots of other products to check out!  And because, when I bought the Lotion, I also bought CHOCOLATE!
Organic Extra Dark Chocolate 80% PanamaOrganic Very Dark Chocolate 71%Organic Dark Chocolate 68%Organic Dark Mint Chocolate 67%Organic Dark Chocolate Expresso Bean 55%Organic Dark Chocolate with Almonds 55%
Yes, my friends, I am a self admitted chocoholic!  And with everyone and their brother talking about organic chocolate, I had to go for it!  Go for it, I did! All I can say is, Tropical Traditions makes some really, really good chocolate!  From a chocoholic, that's saying something!  Will, I buy their chocolate again. YES!!! Who cares about zits at my age!
I have been trying to think of what I want to try next.  I have had two thoughts.
Organic Coconut Peanut Butter
Coconut Peanut Butter sounds really good. I've gotten organic nut butters before but found them a pain it the bum as you always have to stir them up as the oil is always on top. But I am thinking that the coconut oil should help alleviate that issue.
Deodorant Roll-on - Frankincense
My other thought?   Yes, the deodorant.  I am so hoping to find one that works and I am not allergic to.  What flavor, Frankincense.
Coconut Chips - 1 gallon pail
And then, and then....coconut!  Flaked or shredded. or chipped..don't know but I want try some of the Tropical Traditions recipes and see if I can't come up with some to give them.

You win some, you lose some, and sometimes you gotta punt

Krista is a lovely blogger of You Wanna Know What I Think.  She is kind of new to this giveaway stuff but is working hard at it.  She posted about a product called Lipo-Flavonoid, which I hoped would help my tinnitus; so i entered.  Unfortunately, I am one it did not help.
One of the things you must you must understand (if you don't enter giveaway contests), this is no refection on Krista or her blog.  You just can't win all the time with your winnings. I will still refer people to Krista's blog
I will not, however, try a product and not tell you what I really think of it.  This is one I cannot recommend to anyone.
My ENT has admitted he does not know what is causing my problem (screwed up skeletal system or medications I am on).  He also does not have anything in his arsenal that will help me.  I did know there were no contraindications when I entered the giveaway.
I just saw the following so understand why it did not help me or many others.
Lipo-Flavonoid is an herbal supplement which is advertised online and in stores as a treatment for Tinnitus.
The real problem with Lipo-Flavonoid is that it’s not a treatment for “tinnitus” at all. It’s actually a treatment for “Meniere’s Disease” which is one of the lesser causes of tinnitus (the most common cause being exposure to loud noise.)
So purchase with foreknowledge.
Do go visit Krista and give her your support, as well as think about entering one of her giveaways.

Are you one of those people has problems in the spring?

I am. Daddy (the doctor) called it sneeze and wheeze season. My problem with antihistamines is they either don't work or they stop the drip and sneeze but plug me up something awful!  Then, Bridget of Freebies4MeAndU did a review and give away for something call PreHistin.  I read the review and thought about it a lot!  I searched the product out more.  Then I just had to enter!  And I won!
What did I think?
What an idea! Works well with Daddy, the doctor's theory the "prevention is a good thing."  Started I did.  Now I just want them to hurry up and get it into stores so while I am shopping, I can just pick it up!  I could hug Bridget for finding this product for review and giveaway!
Just checked site for PreHistin and they are having a Buy One Get One Free offer!  I am off there as soon as I finish my home work (as these bloody reviews I have neglected)!
'Guess it was a good thing to do this review tonight or I would not have found about about the sale!  Oh, there is lots of educational information there.
Don't forget Freebies4MeAndU.

I wanted to win what?!

GUM! That's right. GUM!
Why?
Have you ever been somewhere and suddenly you are so hungry you could bite somebody but could not for whatever reason? OR you mouth is drier than toast and can't get to liquids?
I have! Both!
Then Leslie at Live, Love, Laugh with Leslie made it sound so good. Leslie also said it was 'sugar free'.
So I entered. I WON two (2) different flavors.
I like both of flavors and will buy more!
If you like gum or need to have something on hand when you get into my desperate situations, check out Tridents' newest innovation...LAYERED GUM! (Who'd a thunk it! Ok, Trident did.) Seriously good with lasting flavor!
Don't forget Live, Love, Laugh with Leslie when you think it's time to see what's out there in the way of giveaways ... they are a great way to see what's out there that you might think you want to buy but want to try it first!

Goodreads gift to me

Goodreads is a gift to all of us who love to read, let others know what we read, track our books, meet fellow readers to find out what they think of books, etc. But who knew you could find giveaways there? And better than that?! Who knew I could win a book that a) I wanted to read and b) was by an author I really like and have liked for forever and a day! If you like a good way to track your books and reviews and your bookie friends, this is a really good place!
So what did I win?
To Desire A Devil (Legend of the Four Soldiers, #4) by Elizabeth Hoyt (Goodreads Author)
This is what was said about it on Goodreads:
NOTHING IS MORE INTOXICATING-
Reynaud St. Aubyn has spent the last seven years in hellish captivity. Now half mad with fever he bursts into his ancestral home and demands his due. Can this wild-looking man truly be the last earl's heir, thought murdered by Indians years ago?

OR DANGEROUS-
Beatrice Corning, the niece of the present earl, is a proper English miss. But she has a secret: No real man has ever excited her more than the handsome youth in the portrait in her uncle's home. Suddenly, that very man is here, in the flesh-and luring her into his bed.

THAN SURRENDERING TO A DEVIL.
Only Beatrice can see past Reynaud's savagery to the noble man inside. For his part, Reynaud is drawn to this lovely lady, even as he is suspicious of her loyalty to her uncle. But can Beatrice's love tame a man who will stop at nothing to regain his title-even if it means sacrificing her innocence?
I have read and loved other books of her's and I have great expectations for this one as well. WHAT?! You want to see the cover. Here goes then:
To Desire A Devil (Legend of the Four Soldiers, #4).
If you are not familiar with this writer, give her a go. You will be so happy you did!

Let them eat cake!

Finally it was my opportunity! I finally won a give away to try one of Bake Me A Wish! cakes! (I tried to win one from ever so long a time!) It was at Leslie Loves Veggies to reach my desire!  The one I won was the Triple Chocolate Enrobed Brownie Cake. Joy in my heart! I love chocolate! It arrived safe and sound to my door.  Finally came the time to try it. Awwww heavenly look and smell! The taste? Moist! Rich! Chocolate! HEAVEN!! All was perfect! Weeeeelll, not quite. It was quite crumbly. That was my only critique which, for someone most into the highlights, is not a big deal.
But you go look and see which cake (and there are several) you want to taste...or send to someone overseas or has newly gone off to college.
I do so thank both Leslie and Bake Me A Wish!.
Leslie has a wonderful site with tons of giveaways of great variety. If you don't believe me, go to her site and check it out for yourself.

Kiss My Thistle Scottish Shortbread

Just so you think DH and I are the only ones who like Kiss My Thistle Shortbread, I sent some to my Mom, my Sister, and my best Friend.  All said they were good but my Mom said it best when she told me she refused to share her shortbread with anyone!  Now, DH, if you remember, said this shortbread was like what it was really like in Scotland (his home)...not those thin things I used to get from grocery store!  I may not order these often (fluffiness requires restriction).

Try making yourself a cup of your favorite hot tea and a couple of these short breads and enjoy yourself with your own tea party. BUT I should warn you, lock the rest away as Kiss My Thistle Shortbread is highly delicious!

Book Winner

I've not read them yet but, from JENS BOOK TALK, I won two books that I am most ashamed to say, have not wiggled out of the 'to be read list'!  Before I go any further, I just have to tell you, my New Year's resolution was to acknowledge I do not have to respond to every posting I read on every blog I follow (if I want to have time for other stuff). Jen's blog is one I read often. She writes good, honest reviews! and has some really good book giveaways! Check her out by clicking on her highlighted blog name!

These are the books I won.

Maybe I am really 2!

You know...how a 2 yo picks up one thing and then some something else with another and then finds a third thing so must put something down in order to pic up third thing. Well, that's me. I read/write my email, FaceBook, Twitter, Ancestry.com and next thing you know time has flown! And I can't go to my book until I finish my reviews! So here's the plan...think else until I am caught up on reviews!

Wonder site, Sweeps4Bloggers' , randomizer picked me to win a $25 gift certificate from EcostoreUSA Ecostore! This is really exciting as I really enjoyed my last winning there. I spent it on their HE laundry soap (front loader washing machine)Natural high performance laundry powder from Ecostore USA and oxygen additive. I was impressed but when shockingly so when dh noticed a difference!!! Products that is eco friendly and dh notices is effective! that is a really, really good thing! I can't wait to figure out what to get next!!!
You can visit Sweeps4Bloggers here and EcoStore USA here. Do check  them both out! (Both are on Twitter and FaceBook. O, and have great follower response!)

I'm so excited! I don't know where to start!

I know...a laugh...this is from my friend Carol:
Women are angels.....
and when someone breaks our wings,
we simply continue to fly....... on a broomstick.
We're flexible!

I did it...I bought a Kindle and I got it for my lap top as well (the later is free). There is so much I can do with it (after I read the book of instructions!)! The first thing I did was order 'The Traitor's Wife", a book I have coveted for the longest time!

What can I tell you! I loved this book! I now want to read anything Susan Higgingtham writes! It's England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales (oh, and France) during the time of English Kings Edward I, II, III and their families. These were not gentle times (lots of lost lives and imprisonments). I read it with 2 windows open for fact checking and definitions of words for clarification.  The story is told through the eyes and ears of Edward I's granddaughter, Elenor, who's life was a roller coaster ride (along with those around her). Thank goodness for the preface of who's who (so many people with the same names). The information at the end was great too (what history says and how she filled in the 'inbetweens'). I think it is a long book (can' tell electronically) but I didn't feel it. If you like political thrillers, get it. If you like family dramas, get it. If you like adventure, get it. If you like history made live, get it. What the heck, if you like a really good read, GET IT!

If you have followed me, you know that one of my favorite new author debuts from last year was 'Circle of Souls' by Preetham Grandhi. He sent me a note that his is now an Award Wining Novelist! "A Circle of Souls" has won the Silver award for visionary fiction at the Nautilus book awards 2010. I am so excited for him! What? you haven't read the book? People, you just don't know what you are missing! READ THE BOOK!

I have been working on my family tree via Ancestry.com for some time now. What a blast! I've found relatives who got to Texas during the years of the Republic of Texas and a first flag that I did not learn about in the Texas history classes. Two things that were really cool? Finding a) that I may  be related to the Cromwell's after reading 'Wolf Hall' and b) all the Welsh connections after reading 'The Traitor's Wife'. I found a Tory relation who may have been hung by another relative during the Revolutionary War. A husband that killed his wife and was in turn, was done in by his father-in-law.  A relative who changed his name before leaving England for the colonies as the Crown was looking for him, his brother, and father...probably to take their heads. It's nice to know my predecessors where not all goody goodies.
The first flag of the Republic of Texas.

The second book I bought for my Kindle (still need to read the manual) is the followup to 'The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker', 'The Darkly Luminous Fight for Persephone Parker' (just released last month) by Leanna Renee Hieber (another favorite debut author of last year). I have been resisting (so hard to do) reading it until i catch up on all my reviews. I love the covers!  If the newest is like the first, it will be gothic, with a bit of legions of London's dark past, myths, Shakespeare, paranormal activities (others may see ghosts, but she can talk to the), and other stuff for your reading enjoyment! Leanna's award:

Have you visited Delicaé Gourmet?  I gotta tell you, she makes the bestest and tastiest products!  She can make the worst cooks look wonderful with things like the slower cooker dinner  and soup kits...she will even suggest what to add! Dump it into the crock pot, go away, and wala! dinner! You could make stuff like Country French Pork and White beans Country French Pork & White Bean or French Bistro Short Ribs French Bistro Short Ribs or even, Old Fashioned Pot Roast Old Fashioned Pot Roast.  Soups? Caribbean Black Bean  Caribbean Black Bean Soup or Country Harvest Corn Chowder  Country Harvest Corn Chowder or Southern Italian Pasta e Fragioli Southern Italian Pasta e Fagioli just to name a few.  What about some Vanilla Chia Tea Jelly Vanilla Chai Tea Jelly on your toast with your tea at breakfast or in your yogurt. Oh, you are more into coffee? How about some French Vanilla Coffee French Vanilla Coffee Jelly & Dessert Topping or Hazelnut CoffeeHazelnut Coffee Jelly & Dessert Topping or even Kona CoffeeKona Coffee Jelly & Dessert Topping Jelly & Dessert Toppings?  She has chocolate sauces and oils and vinegars and jams and jellies and marmalades and so much more! She gives you lots of suggestions but with your imagination...  I just gave you nothing more than a thumb nail sketch. Go here and read all about it yourself!  This is not a give away, just a report after she let me try some!

Winner, winner, chicken dinner...no, not food! ecostore USA winner from Valerie Mitchell's Sweeps4Bloggers!  This is really a happy win as I have tried their laundry soap and oxygen bleach (DH noticed a difference!) AND it is 'eco friendly'!  So I am excited to decide what to get this time! Go visit both sites for some really good stuff!

Hey, you who have Kindles, what accessories, if any. have you bought and why?

Publisher's Summary:

Winner of the prestigious Man Booker prize for fiction. In the ruthless arena of King Henry VIII's court, only one man dares to gamble his life to win the king's favor and ascend to the heights of political power England in the 1520s is a heartbeat from disaster. If the king dies without a male heir, the country could be destroyed by civil war. Henry VIII wants to annul his marriage of twenty years, and marry Anne Boleyn. The pope and most of Europe opposes him. The quest for the king's freedom destroys his adviser, the brilliant Cardinal Wolsey, and leaves a power vacuum. Into this impasse steps Thomas Cromwell. Cromwell is a wholly original man, a charmer and a bully, both idealist and opportunist, astute in reading people and a demon of energy: he is also a consummate politician, hardened by his personal losses, implacable in his ambition. But Henry is volatile: one day tender, one day murderous. Cromwell helps him break the opposition, but what will be the price of his triumph? In inimitable style, Hilary Mantel presents a picture of a half-made society on the cusp of change, where individuals fight or embrace their fate with passion and courage.
With a vast array of characters, overflowing with incident, the novel re-creates an era when the personal and political are separated by a hairbreadth, where success brings unlimited power but a single failure means death.

What the Critics Say

I bought this on from Audible.com.  I highly recommend this for people who have read a lot about Henry VIII or you might get lost in all the different characters. If you are familiar with this history, you will find it a good read. If not, do keep your computer on so you can search people out. I found it a kinder book on him than in other things I have read or seen. My only problem with it was it ended too soon as I know he will follow many others come to an untimely end, as did most people of that time.  BUT I found out there is another book in progress.  I am not worried that I have just spoiled the second book for you. If you know the history of the time, you already were aware of his end.  Oh, if you like listen too books, the narrator was quite good.

Have you ever been afraid of reading a book? I  think because I was told the 'banker Vaughan' mentioned was my grandfather and I would hate to see him misrepresented. But it turns out I needed have feared as it was before his time. As for my thoughts about the book? For those few people who are unacquainted with it, the novel is Mr. Haley's story of the origins and tracing of his family history. I found it a good, poignant read. Having gotten it from Audible.com, you know it was an audible version. The narrator, Avery Brooks, has an excellent voice which added much to the listen. No matter how you ingest the story, I am sure you will find it very engrossing.

I know your eyes must be tired so I will stop for now but will soon get back to you with more reviews! Promise!

A question

Am I the only person who periodically goes an looks at the faces of my (your) followers? Aren't they lovely?

Saturday: 9

Hey Jealousy

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme! Saturday 9: Hey Jealousy
1. When was the last time that you got jealous? APPARENTLY, LONG ENOUGH AGO TO HAVE FORGOTTEN IT.

2. At what point do you finally decide it's time to move forward with your life (like, major changes)? How do you know? What do you do?
I AM ALWAYS TRYING TO MOVE ON, FORWARD IN MY LIFE...I WANT TO SEE WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT! OOOOOO, YOU MEAN HOLDING UP MY LIFE AFTER A BREAK UP...WOW....HMMMM THAT WAS A LESSON LEARNED EONS AGO.

F I TRIED TO GO AROUND IT, OVER IT, AND THROUGH IT...OR I GOT THROUGH IT ONLY TO FIND OUT THERE WAS NOTHING THERE!! 4. How many times must someone push your buttons before you've just had enough? Why? WITH SOME PEOPLE, ONCE IS ENOUGH. WITH OTHERS, A ZILLION. WHY? WHY? DAMNED IF I KNOW.

5. If I S/O were to cheat on you, could you ever see yourself giving them a second chance? Or a third?
I DON'T KNOW. I THINK IT WOULD DEPEND ON OUR CONVERSATION AFTER.

6. What was the last thing that someone did that you were very grateful for?
DH GETTING ME A GLASS OF WINE LAST NIGHT. 7. How much time do you spend online in a given weekday? What about the weekends? PROBABLY WAY TOO MUCH!

8. How many online journals/blogs do you read regularly? What are some of your favorites and why?
LOTS!! CHECK OUT THE ONES I HAVE ON MY ROLL BARS AND BELOW. WHY? SILLY...THEY INTEREST ME! 9. What was the last major purchase that you made?  A KINDLE

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!I
